One of the most popular features of the annual Mandarin Art Festival is the Children's Art Show. Held inside the Mandarin Community Club building, work from over a dozen local public and private elementary and middle schools are on display and judged in several different categories. School participation is by invitation only. See Frequently Asked Questions below.
As a reminder, the Children's Art Show ends early before the art festival closes on Easter Sunday to allow ample time for artwork to be taken down and picked up by teachers. The Children's Art Show runs on Sunday from 10 AM - 2 PM with breakdown starting around 1:45 PM. Show hours may change due to the Mandarin Community Club board and Mandarin Art Festival chair discretion due to inclement weather and/or other unforeseen impact to overall art festival. Any disruption or disrespect to our volunteers will not be tolerated and could exempt your student and/or student's school from future participation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the students' artwork for sale?
No. The students' artwork is not for sale.
What is People's Choice?
The People's Choice is a feature added to the Children's Art Show in 2018 during the 50th anniversary of the Mandarin Art Festival. It allowed visitors to the art festival to vote on their favorite student artwork. People's Choice voting takes place on Saturday from 10am-5pm via online form. Votes outside of these hours are not counted. The winner is posted, along with the juried winners, on this page on Easter Sunday by Noon ET.
Which schools are allowed to participate in the Children's Art Show?
Most of the schools have previously participated in the Children's Art Show and normally reinvited for the following Easter weekend show. There are occasions where schools may drop from participation or decline based on the art teacher's discretion, retirement, etc. Art teachers may reach out to the Children's Art Show committee chair(s) to see if they can participate in future shows. Please note that this is not a guarantee for participation. Due to space limitations invited schools required to confirm via registration otherwise they cannot participate or be included in the show.
I noticed that there is a Children's Art Show judge listed. What does this mean?
Like the Mandarin Art Festival's artist exhibitors, the students' artwork in the Children's Art Show is also juried by professional artist, Pablo Rivera. Mr. Rivera has been a long-time judge for the Children's Art Show, which he thoroughly enjoys and says "it's one of the most difficult jobs" he's ever had! The schools' art teachers review and select their top 10 student artwork to represent their school. Student works are divided into grade divisions for jurying---kindergarten-2nd grades, 3rd-5th grades, and 6-8th grades. Ribbons are awarded to student and school winners.
How many pieces of artwork is permitted for the show for each school?
Up to 10 pieces of student artwork is allowed per school grade group (i.e., Elementary is allow up to 10 pieces and Middle School is allowed up to 10 pieces). The art teachers select the artwork to participate in the show.
Why does the Children's Art Show end early on Sunday?
The artwork has to be taken down and ready for pick-up by the art teachers on Sunday afternoon. The Mandarin Art Festival committee has limited volunteers and need ample time to be able to--carefully--take down the artwork by 4pm. In addition, show hours may change due to the Mandarin Community Club board and Mandarin Art Festival chair discretion due to inclement weather and/or other unforeseen impact to overall art festival.
Where are the ribbons for the winners?
The winners will still be awarded their ribbons and will be sent home in the packet for the art teachers upon pickup on Sunday afternoon. We're using laminated labels to indicate the winners this year due to issues with the ribbon placement and damages in the previous years.
